SIX STAGES OF MANHOODA REFLECTIVE GUIDE
← Return to the rings

STAGE 02 / 06

Bull Rider

Strength learning its direction.

Awakening desire, forming identity, and learning to offer strength with courage and self-control.

01

Overview

The teenage boy awakens to his body and begins exploring his sexual identity. He experiences attraction, the possibility of falling in love, and the ache of aloneness.

He desires companionship and fears rejection. Through work, responsibility, friendship, and sacrifice, he begins learning the practices of manhood.

02

The Enemy’s Attacks

  • Offering false intimacy and false connection in place of real relationship.
  • Encouraging the feeling that he is controlled by his desires rather than able to steward them.
  • Shaping his identity through the world around him rather than through being made in God’s image.

03

The Path Toward Growth

Growth means learning to recognize where God has already been fathering him and where God is initiating something now—even when he has misunderstood it.

He learns to become brave and true: developing personal strength and self-control that can be offered for the good of others.

04

Reflection Questions

Take time with these. Consider them in prayer, in a journal, or in conversation with a trusted man.

  1. Where do I seek connection, and does it lead me toward genuine intimacy or away from it?
  2. Whose approval most strongly shapes my identity?
  3. How might God be teaching me to offer my strength with courage and self-control?

Each new stage incorporates the earlier ones. These questions invite reflection wherever you are in life; they are not a measure of rank or maturity.
